nokia-5800-xpressmusic-unlockedFirst, let’s get things out of the way. Nokia is a popular maker of mobile phones around the world because they make great products. The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic Mobile Phone is one of them.

The XpressMusic is built for GSM carriers. This makes them popular as unlocked phones since there are so many GSM providers all over the world. As a mobile phone, the Nokia 5800 is well-equipped to take advantage of the fast 3G connection. It can also use the lesser speeds of EDGE and GPRS. Thus, AT&T, T-Mobile, Orange, and Rogers come to mind depending on the country or global region.

The 5800 XpressMusic Mobile Phone has fantastic conference call utility. If the service provider supports it, up to 6 callers can participate in the conference calling. It’s like having your own voice chat room with 5 of your best friends. Yeah, you can use it for work as well.

What makes the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic an awesome gadget?

The name says it. It is a top notch music player that suits the hipster lifestyle. Integrated surround sound hi-fi speakers, over 80 MB internal memory along with swappable SD card slot that can support 16 MB, and support for Flash Lite and Java for extreme use of multi-media apps.

Samsung S8300 Mobile UltraTouch Phone with Humongous 80 GB Storage

Samsung s8300 Mobile Ultra Touch Smartphone: 8GB storage & 8 mega pix camera

Samsung s8300 Mobile Ultra Touch Smartphone: 8GB storage & 8 mega pix camera

In an earlier post, I talked about how the Nokia N97 3G smart phone with its 32 GB internal storage is the closest thing to a pocket PC.  Well, the competition is tighter than that.  The Samsung Ultra TOUCH S8300 smartphone has a 80 GB internal memory with an option for 16 GB more through a microSD chip.

Samsung S8300 Mobile UltraTouch Screen Phone Plenty of Storage

80 GB!  That’s a helluva lot of storage in a phone.  By current standards, that’s mind-boggling.  I mean, what are you gonna do with so much space?  It’s suppose to be able to store up to 1000 contacts.  But do you really have that many friends?

With that kind of storage space and it’s not a bad phone, I do wonder why the Samsung Ultra S8300 is not more popular.  The cost is not exorbitant.  It’s in the $450 range for an unlocked phone on Amazon and other online retailers which is less than the Nokia N97.

Samsung UltraTOUCH S8300 with Advanced 8MP Camera

Let’s see what else the Samsung S8300 Mobile UltraTOUCH has that can shed a light on who’s the best candidate for using this phone.  We find that this marvelous gadget also has an advanced 8 megapixel camera with a display of 3264 x 2448 pixels, geo-tagging, image stabilization, auto-focus, face detection, and smile shot.  First of all, that’s very high rez for a camera phone.  Typical rez for current camera phones are 2-3 megapix.  8 megapix is in the range of $110-$150 digital cameras.  A Nikon Coolpix 8MP digital camera costs around $120 on Amazon.com.

Next is geo-tagging that lets the picture taker label images according to where it’s taken using the Earth’s longitudinal and latitudinal coordinates.  The Samsung Ultra S8300 is able to do this using a built-in GPS.

The advanced camera also has image stabilization, face detection, smile shot, and auto-focus.  With these features, it really sounds like the perfect candidate for this phone is someone who lives for the moment and wants the ability to record it.  It can be pictures or videos.  And videos are played back at 30 fps.  DVD players play them at 24 fps.  With 80 GB of storage, you won’t have to worry about running out of space for awhile.

The Samsung Ultra S8300 can run on 3G networks, so depending on your data plan, you can easily share your videos online.

Samsung S8300 Mobile Ultra Touch the perfect getaway phone

So again, who are you so that you’ll get to enjoy the full benefits of this phone?  A traveler maybe?  Someone who likes to hike up in the Alps, shoot majestic snow-laden mountain caps, and immediately post them online to make your friends jealous.  How ’bout someone on a long deserved vacation from the office.  You’re in Maui.  And image of a sparsely populated sun drenched beach is just too good to keep in your head.  Share it on your Facebook with co-workers.

But it doesn’t have to be that.  If you go to next year’s Comic Con, you might get a chance to take a picture of Megan Fox for the Transformers 3 panel.  Well, that movie has not been announced yet, but the series is making so much money that you know they’ll make another one.  In any case, the picture or video you take of her with your phone, which hopefully is a Samsung UltraTOUCH S8300, will be stunning.

Nokia N97 3G Smartphone: The Closest Thing to A Pocket Computer

Generally called as smartphones, the central theme is that you’ll be able to perform tasks and functions you’d normally do on an Internet-connected computer.  Smartphone users are able to do these from apps they download.

The 3G Nokia N97 can do all that from out of your pocket.  Designed for human comfort, the Nokia N97 3G is the closest mobile phone to a computer.  How?  First, it has a 3.5 inch screen.  Though not the biggest out there (Toshiba TG01 has a 4.1″ screen), the N97’s screen has a 16:9 aspect ratio.  That’s the most common aspect ratio of HD TV in your living room or flat screen monitor in your office.  Incorporated in a Nokia N97, what you’re holding is a handheld version of a computer flat screen or HD TV.  Furthermore, the Nokia N97 3G plays videos at 30 fps.  A decent DVD player plays videos at 24 fps.

See where I’m getting at here?  Simple.  smartphones are getting closer and closer to mobile computers.  Nokia, with the N97, makes a large step in doing so.

But having a nice screen and video playback won’t mean a thing if you have nothing to show on it.  That’s where the Ovi StoreN-Gage and the N97’s whopping 32 GB of internal storage with an additional 16 GB from a MicroSD chip come in.

Nokia Ovi Store

The Ovi Store is Nokia’s application center for all its mobile phones.  Launched in May 2009, you can download the apps that please you or the ones that you need to get things done.  Some are free, others you have to buy.  So if you want to tweet, download Tweets60.  If you want to upload a picture to Facebook, download Pixelpipe.  Aside from socializing or keeping in touch with friends, users may download apps for finance, news, sports, and others.

Not to mention that you can access the actual web pages through the Nokia N97.  Thus, in many instances, you don’t even need to download an app from the Ovi store for your online activities.  Just think, you can Digg anywhere.

N-Gage: Nokia’s Gamer Community

If you’re a gamer, you don’t really need the PSP, Nintendo DS, or Ipod Touch to carry along with your cell phone.  The Nokia N97 3G can play video games downloaded from it’s popular online gaming center, N-Gage.  The games available in N-Gage are not low tech games like blackjack and minesweeper.  It offers seriously good games like Star Wars: The Force UnleashedMetal Gear Solid Mobile, and Resident Evil: Degeneration.

Nokia N97’s 32 GB Disk: Can’t Beat It

Of course, these games require storage.  And that’s no problem with the N97’s 32 GB of disk space.  An additional 16 GB is available using a MicroSD chip for a total of 48 GB.  That’s sick for a handheld phone.  With that much space available, you can use the N97 to carry all kinds of music, video, and pictures.  You won’t need to spend additional money on an iPod or Zune.  If the N-Gage games are good enough, you save money on gaming by not buying a PSP or a DS.

The original Apple iPhone: Still Popular After All These Years

Original iPhone 2G are as popular as ever on eBay. Unlocked versions.

Original iPhone 2G are as popular as ever on eBay. Unlocked versions.

The iPhone has been around for over two years now and in it’s 3rd generation.  Still, the original iPhone (2G) is a very popular product on eBay.  Much of them are used, being sold by those who upgraded from the original Apple iPhone 2G to the second generation iPhone 3G or the third generation iPhone 3GS.

When buying an iPhone, the sim card you are planning to use must be already compatible with the iPhone’s current provider setting.  In the US, it is most likely it’s AT&T.  So if you have a Motorola GSM phone with AT&T, you can take that sim to an AT&T iPhone and it will be ready to go.  If you want to use another GSM provider such as T-Mobile, you’ll have to unlock it first by getting the code from AT&T.

Luckily, the popular iPhones on eBay are already unlocked.  Meaning that to use it, you only need a plan with a GSM mobile provider that uses a sim card.  In the US, AT&T and T-Mobile come to mind.  Rogers in Canada, Orange in many European countries, Hutchison in Australia, and a whole host of others globally.

I’m curious as to why consumers are still attracted to the original iPhone.  Perhaps, because it is still an effective mobile phone?  It can be used as an enhanced iPod, that’s for sure.  In a Wi-Fi hotspot, you don’t need a data plan to surf the web.  Some users jailbreak them (which is illegal or against Apple’s policies) and load apps and games that are not available on iTunes.

The original Apple iPhones are available with two story configurations — 4GB and 8GB:

Cect i9 3g (Cellulari Cect i9) Mobile Phone

Cect i9 Supports Java-based Games

Cect i9 Supports Java-based Games

The Cect i9 3G smart phone is the latest version of the highly successful I9 from the maker who brought you the KA08, i9++, and i68+ (Sciphone). Introduced in May 2009, the Cect i9 3G is the 3rd generation phone of its series.  But a word of caution. A common misconception over the Cect i9 3G is that it runs on the newer and faster 3G networks.  It doesn’t as of yet.  It runs on the common GSM such as AT&T, Cingular, T Mobile, and Fido.

Simple Navigation and Control on the i9 3G

Still, the Cect i9 3G phone has plenty of excellent multi-media features.  The video support alone is like carrying a tiny TV in your pocket.  It has a 81.28mm (3.2 inch) high definition touch screen and plays mp3 / mp4 video files.  The video display supports over 16 million different colors at a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels.

The navigation is touch screen and there are up to 10 pages of available for customizing the phone to your needs.  Meaning that your most used websites and applications can only be a single touch away when you need it.  Drag & drop the icons for these websites and applications as you please.  Or trash them if dis-pleased.

Furthermore, along with a built-in gravity inductor, you can easily adjust video play or picture display by tilting the phone.  It’s part of the shake control You can use tilting, swaying, or shaking to change music, wallpaper, pictures, and messages.  You don’t have to push any buttons.

Cect i9 3G supports multiple languages

In the ever increasing multi-nationality of the world, support for various languages in a device is a must.  The Cect i9 3G is very versatile in that it supports English, Arabian, Bahasa Indonesia, Deutsch, Portuguese, Spanish, Polish, German, Swedish, Slovenian, Vietnamese, Thai, Russian, French, Turkish, Italian, Chinese, and Romanian.  You have a Chinese girlfriend and she doesn’t read Italian, yet you want her to use your i9 3G?  No problem, just change the language feature on the phone.

Games and Applications on the Cect i9 3G

Video games.  We love them.  Past models of the i9, and even the current KA08 (or mini i9s), did not support video games.  But the i9 3G is different because it can play Java-based video games.  How?  The Cect i9 3G has java support.  All you have to do is download them from online (i.e. GetJar.com or similar sites) and upload them as an installed software on your i9 3G.  Play the games whenever like.  It’s the same support for Java-based application.

The Mini Cect KA08 “iPhone” Clone in Black, White, Green, Pink, and Blue

More and more mini Cect KA08 phones are popping up all over eBay lately.  These are dubbed by many as the mini iPhones because it kinda looks like one, except much smaller.  It’s a clone, too.  Not made by Apple but by Cect, a completely different company based in China.

Mini “iPhone” KA08

Fans of this mini iPhone clone love its size. The Cect mini “iPhone” KA08 is about the size of a credit card or a bank card.  Whereas, a real Apple iPhone is the size and weight of a typical PDA.  A typical card has a dimension around 3.45″ x 2.15″ (87.63mm x 54.61mm).  The Cect mini “iPhone” KA08 has a dimension of 3.7 inches x 1.97 inches x 0.47 inches (94mm x 50mm x 12mm).  And weighs only 1/10 lbs (48 grams).  The mini phone ka08 is very easy to carry in a light shirt pocket.

From the looks of it, the general design of the screen and shape of the handheld is that of an iPhone.  The comparison seems to stop at the looks.  The mini Cect KA08 does not have the same app support as the iPhone.  It doesn’t even have JAVA to run video games and other application.

The Mini Cect KA08 Dual Sim and Worldwide Support

So what do you get?  Well, it’s a phone with voice recognition and voice dialing.  It runs on typical GSM networks supported around the world.  That’s why it’s so popular in Europe where many folks, especially the youngsters, travel around between countries.  The mini Cect KA08 has dual sim support, so you can easily switch from an Italian phone service to French without having to reprogram the phone.  Other languages it supports are English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Italian, Deutsch, Turkish, Persion, and Arabic.

The KA08 mini phone is a pretty good electronic device.  It makes a fantastic music and video player.  It has a 2.4″ (60.96mm) screen that also supports an e-Reader.  The touch screen navigation is highly responsive and comfortable for texting.  Internet support is through WAP.  The 2 mega pix camera has a 640 x 480 display resolution. There are 3 choices for pre-installed microSD memory cards: 2 GB, 4 GB, or 8 GB.

The other thing fans love about mini Cect KA08 is the price.  Depending on the options, you can get this phone for $100 or less.  To top it off, it’s available in different colors: black, white, green, pink, and blue.
