When buying an iPhone, the sim you’re planning to use must be already compatible with the iPhone’s current provider setting. Most likely it’s AT&T. So if you have a Motorola GSM phone with AT&T, you can take that sim to an iPhone that’s setup for AT&T service. If you want to use another GSM provider such as T-Mobile with that iPhone, you’ll have to unlock it first by getting the code from AT&T.
