Nokia N97 3G Smartphone: The Closest Thing to A Pocket Computer

Nokia n97 in Black or WhiteGenerally called as smartphones, the central theme is that you’ll be able to perform tasks and functions you’d normally do on an Internet-connected computer.  Smartphone users are able to do these from apps they download.

The 3G Nokia N97 can do all that from out of your pocket.  Designed for human comfort, the Nokia N97 3G is the closest mobile phone to a computer.  How?  First, it has a 3.5 inch screen.  Though not the biggest out there (Toshiba TG01 has a 4.1″ screen), the N97′s screen has a 16:9 aspect ratio.  That’s the most common aspect ratio of HD TV in your living room or flat screen monitor in your office.  Incorporated in a Nokia N97, what you’re holding is a handheld version of a computer flat screen or HD TV.  Furthermore, the Nokia N97 3G plays videos at 30 fps.  A decent DVD player plays videos at 24 fps.

See where I’m getting at here?  Simple.  smartphones are getting closer and closer to mobile computers.  Nokia, with the N97, makes a large step in doing so.

But having a nice screen and video playback won’t mean a thing if you have nothing to show on it.  That’s where the Ovi StoreN-Gage and the N97′s whopping 32 GB of internal storage with an additional 16 GB from a MicroSD chip come in.

Nokia Ovi Store

The Ovi Store is the app center for Nokia mobile phones.  Launched in May 2009, you can download the apps that please you or the ones that you need to get things done.  Some are free, others you have to buy.  So if you want to tweet, download Tweets60.  If you want to upload a picture to Facebook, download Pixelpipe.  Aside from socializing or keeping in touch with friends, users may download apps for finance, news, sports, and others.

Not to mention that you can access the actual web pages through the Nokia N97.  Thus, in many instances, you don’t even need to download an app from the Ovi store for your online activities.  Just think, you can Digg anywhere.

N-Gage: Nokia’s Gamer Community

If you’re a gamer, you don’t really need the PSP, Nintendo DS, or Ipod Touch to carry along with your cell phone.  The Nokia N97 3G can play video games downloaded from it’s popular online gaming center, N-Gage.  The games available in N-Gage are not low tech games like blackjack and minesweeper.  It offers seriously good games like Star Wars: The Force UnleashedMetal Gear Solid Mobile, and Resident Evil: Degeneration.

Nokia N97′s 32 GB Disk: Can’t Beat It

Of course, these games require storage.  And that’s no problem with the N97′s 32 GB of disk space.  An additional 16 GB is available using a MicroSD chip for a total of 48 GB.  That’s sick for a handheld phone.  With that much space available, you can use the N97 to carry all kinds of music, video, and pictures.  You won’t need to spend additional money on an iPod or Zune.  If the N-Gage games are good enough, you save money on gaming by not buying a PSP or a DS.
